Therapy for children takes a family-based approach which begins with meeting the parents/guardians to understand their perspectives on what the difficulties are. From here, Rachel works with parents and children to develop skills and strategies to overcome these difficulties. During most sessions, Rachel will meet with parents initially for 5-10 minutes before working with your child individually.
Therapy for young adults does not always involve meeting with the parents/guardians depending on the age of the client. This can be discussed further during the time of booking an initial appointment.
Parent/guardian appointments are an integral part of working with a family unit. During individual sessions, Rachel will often speak with a parent or guardian for 5-10 minutes before spending time with your child. However, sometimes more time is required to discuss a child's specific difficulties and to provide parenting advice, guidance, and strategies. In this case, we encourage parents/guardians to book a separate appointment.
Rachel is available to complete school observations and meetings when appropriate.
What does a School Observation involve?
A school observation is an opportunity for Rachel to visit your child's school and observe them in their classroom setting. This can provide further information into your child's specific behaviours and overall functioning in the school environment. It also allows for tailored strategies to be provided to home and school.
What kind of school meeting would a psychologist attend?
Rachel is available to attend SSG meetings and team care meetings. This allows an opportunity to speak with the teachers and school staff about the difficulties a child is experiencing, and to work collaboratively to develop strategies in the classroom and at home.
Appointment duration: 50 minutes.
Appointment Fees: School Hours (Weekdays 9am-3pm) $200

A Mental Health Care Plan needs to be renewed with your GP or medical professional after your initial six sessions. At this point in time, you may be eligible to access four further sessions. This is a total of 10 rebated sessions per calendar year.
NDIS and some private health providers can reimburse partially or in full for therapy sessions. Some people prefer to pay privately, without Medicare or any medical professional involvement, which is also accepted.
